Jim Vonderhaar, an experienced businessman, long time Sugar Land resident, community leader and public advocate has filed for At Large, Position One for Sugar Land City Council. Jim’s experience and background make him uniquely qualified to manage and navigate the critical issues facing Sugar Land’s residents at this time, including development and re-development projects while working with four new city council members and a new mayor.
Maintaining excellent quality of life issues, attracting next generation residents all while maintaining a healthy but controlled tax base is critical to our city’s future. Jim is known as the
leader who “listens”, who can effectively work with all people, communities
and ideas to bring these important factors together for the benefit and
greatest outcome for all residents.
Important issues directly affecting our citizens are safety, mobility, city services, balanced growth, infrastructure, flooding issues, adequate green spaces and parks, and a balanced approach to housing for present and future residents.
Jim’s diverse Leadership and Community Volunteerism include: Eucharistic Minister at St. Laurence Catholic Church, Youth Sports Coach, VP Sugar Land HOA, former chair of Fort Bend Young Life Chapter, former Committee Chair Fort Bend Alzheimer’s Assoc Walk for a Cure, Graduate of Sugar Land 101 and Sugar Land Fire Dept. Fire Academy, Redevelopment Committee Imperial and Lake Pointe Sites, and currently active member of Sugar Land’s Legislative Task Force.
Jim and his wife owned a Home Care Agency for several years before selling it to retire. Prior to this business ownership he was an executive in the energy sector for over 30 years. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Janine Parker Vonderhaar, for over 47 years. They have one son and two wonderful granddaughters. He holds a business degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
